Antioxidante 1520 (2,4-bis(octiltiometil)-6-metilfenol) combines a hindered phenol and thioether functions in one molecule, giving both radical-scavenging and hydroperoxide-decomposing action. It is used in synthetic rubbers (SBR, BR, SBS, SIS), hot-melt adhesives and lubricants, and is easy to meter as a liquid.

*Starting points for trials, not fixed recommendations. The right level depends on resin, catalyst residue, processing temperature and service life. Primary and secondary antioxidants do different jobs and are not interchangeable.

Keep containers closed, away from heat and direct sun. Warm gently and mix before use if the liquid has thickened in cold weather. See the SDS.

Name the failure you want to prevent
Yellowing or melt-flow change during processing points to the phosphite share; embrittlement or cracking after months in service points to the phenolic and thioester share. Note recycled content and the number of extrusion passes.
Start from a proven blend
Most polyolefin packages start from a phenolic primary plus a phosphite secondary, then adjust. Send your current package and we suggest a starting blend for the trial instead of changing several variables at once.

For powders: ensaio, melting range, volatiles and light transmittance at 425/500 nm (a direct read on color). Ask for the same parameters on our COA that appear on your incoming-inspection sheet.

Does 1520 need a separate thioester?
Usually not: its built-in thioether groups give the synergy that other packages get from adding DLTDP or DSTDP.
What dosage is typical in rubber?
Commonly 0.1–0.5%, depending on rubber type and storage requirements. Confirm in your trial.
Is 1520 used in polyolefins?
Less often; it is mainly used in elastomers, adhesives and oils. For polyolefins 1010 + 168 is the usual choice.
