N, N'-Diisopropylcarbodiimide (DIPC) is a solid that dissolves in water to form an acid-base complex. It is used to make carbamates, an important class of organic compounds.

Applications:

N, N'-Diisopropylcarbodiimide (DIPC) is a versatile reagent that forms a water-soluble carbodiimide upon dissociation. It is used to form amides from easily accessible amines and aldehydes.

DIPCID can be used to synthesize both amides and ureas from carboxylic acids and amines. In this way, amines become activated carbon nucleophiles.
