Isomer-specific intermediate
m-Cresol gives the substitution pattern your product needs; isomer purity is what to check.
m-Cresol (3-methylphenol) is an intermediate for pesticides such as fenthion and pyrethroids, and for color-film chemicals, resins, plasticizers and fragrances. SUNCHEM supplies m-cresol with a batch COA on every shipment.
m-Cresol is the meta isomer of methylphenol. Its substitution pattern makes it the starting point for organophosphate insecticides such as fenthion, for 3-phenoxytoluene and other pyrethroid intermediates, for tricresyl phosphate plasticizers, for thymol and other fragrance chemicals, and for vitamin E precursors. It is also used in color-film developers and phenolic resins.
For most syntheses the content of p-cresol, which boils at almost the same temperature, is the specification that matters.

Used for pesticides, antioxidants, resins, plasticizers, fragrances and dyes.
We quote against your assay and isomer limits and send the batch COA for each lot.

| Your requirement | What usually works |
|---|---|
| Pesticide and pharmaceutical synthesis | Specify assay and limits for the other cresol isomers |
| Resins and plasticizers | Standard grade; agree color and water |
| Antioxidants and fragrances | Specify purity and color |
| Replacing an existing supplier | Send your current TDS or COA; we quote against the parameters you approve |
Tell us the drum or IBC size you need; we confirm the packaging with the quotation.
Keep containers closed in a cool, ventilated store away from oxidizers. Cresols darken on exposure to air and light.
Toxic and corrosive liquid (UN 2076, Class 6.1, subsidiary 8, PG II).
The product you make: isomer and impurity limits follow from it.
Assay, the other cresol isomers, phenol, water and color.
Cresols are toxic and corrosive to skin; follow the SDS for protective equipment and closed transfer.
Run a sample in your own process and keep the approved lot COA as the reference for contract limits.
Tell us what you make with m-Cresol, the quantity and the destination port. Add your current specification and we will quote against it.
