Introduction:

Losartan, also known as Cozaar and Novartis, is the first anti-hypertensive drug of the angiotensin II receptor antagonist (AIIA) class. Its chemical name is 2-butyl-4-chloro-1-[(2-(1-H-tetrazol-5-yl)[1,1-biphenyl]-4-yl)methyl]-1-H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid, and it is generally a pale yellow solid.

It works by reducing the body's retention of salt and water but ensuring that it gets enough blood to specific parts of your organs and muscles and enough force on the heart.

When first created at Menarini during the 1950s, this was called MK564 because its molecular structure appeared to be similar to quinine or potassium 5-methyldopa from two decades earlier.
