Пропионовая кислота (пропановая кислота) inhibits mold and some bacteria, so it is used directly as a preservative in grain and feed and, through its calcium and sodium salts, in bread and other foods. It is also an esterification raw material for propionate esters used in flavors and solvents, an intermediate for fungicides and pharmaceuticals, and a raw material for plasticizers.
For feed and food buyers, purity and the documents for the destination market decide the grade.
