Methyl Cyclopentadiene Dimmer (MCPD) is a chemical product used in the production of polymers such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC).It is an organic compound that contains the methylcyclopentadiene skeleton, consisting of a five-membered ring containing two methyl groups.

It is one of the most important cyclic alkenes, and is prepared by dimerization of acetylene with diazomethane or by pyrolysis of dicyclopentadiene.  it is also the by-product that is produced when you prepare trans fats.

Trans fats are made from vegetable oils. The process of making these fats involves mixing hydrogen gas with carbon monoxide. This process also produces MCPDs. This is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor, highly flammable and toxic.


Methyl Cyclopentadiene Dimmer is used in organic syntheses. It is widely employed in the manufacture of pharmaceutics, agrochemicals, dyestuffs, pigments, etc. It is also used to synthesize inorganic compounds.
