Higher processing temperature
Stable to about 330 °C, so it suits PP and polyamides.
Magnesium hydroxide (MDH) is a halogen-free mineral flame retardant and smoke suppressant for polymers processed at higher temperatures, such as polypropylene, polyamides and cable compounds. SUNCHEM supplies magnesium hydroxide with a batch COA on every shipment; the TDS is sent on request.
Magnesium hydroxide decomposes at about 330 °C, absorbing heat and releasing water vapor, which cools the polymer and dilutes the flame; the magnesium oxide residue reduces smoke. Its higher decomposition temperature than ATH lets it be compounded into polypropylene, polyamides and other polymers processed above 200 °C.
As a high-loading filler, particle size, purity and surface treatment decide melt flow and mechanical properties.
Stable to about 330 °C, so it suits PP and polyamides.
Releases water and reduces smoke, with no halogen.
We quote against your Mg(OH)₂ content, particle size, whiteness, CaO and Fe content, moisture and surface treatment and send the batch COA for each lot.
| Parameter | Typical value |

Mg(OH)₂ content, particle size, whiteness, CaO and Fe content, moisture and surface treatment limits depend on the producer grade and are stated on the TDS and batch COA; the limits for your order are confirmed in the quotation and contract.
Where MDH is used, and what to confirm before you switch supply.
In low-smoke halogen-free cable compounds, especially where higher processing temperatures are used.
In halogen-free PP and polyamide parts processed above 200 °C.
In rubber, coatings and other polymers needing a halogen-free smoke suppressant.
| Your requirement | What usually works |
|---|---|
| PP and polyamide compounds | Fine, surface-treated MDH |
| LSZH cables | Specify particle size and treatment |
| Processing below 200 °C | ATH may be more economical |
| Replacing an existing supplier | Send your current TDS or COA; we quote against the parameters you approve |
Tell us the bag or drum size and pallet requirements you need; we confirm the packaging with the quotation.
Keep bags closed in a dry store.
Name the polymer and the fire rating you must meet — UL 94 class and thickness, LOI or cable standard.
Purity, particle size (D50), whiteness, CaO and Fe content, moisture and surface treatment.
High loadings change flow; compare torque and mechanical properties in your trial.
Compound a trial batch, run your fire and mechanical tests, and keep the approved lot COA as the reference.
Tell us the polymer, the fire rating you need, the quantity and the destination port. Add your current specification and we will quote against it.
