Introduction:

The HC yellow 5 is a synthetic food dye found in a wide variety of different processed foods. It earns its nickname from the abbreviation for "HC," which stands for "hard copolymer." The color has an approximate hue between lemon and mustard, making it far too bright to be considered edible by many people.

To produce HC Yellow 5 as an ingredient, manufacturers both mix ground up imported earth with sodium hydroxide until they form what is known as "edible clay." Some call it yellow five or anticancer yellow, but its official name is HC YELLOW 5. Like most colorants in the dye section of supermarkets, it derives from coal tar or petroleum distillates mixed with chlorine to produce different types of colors.

The companies producing this substance are constantly experimenting with the varying amounts of hydrogen chloride and alkali needed to create levels of brightness and opacity that best suit their needs.

Applications:

HC Yellow 5 common use is in cake frostings and butter-based pastries. Citrus flavors work nicely with it also because they do not clash like black food coloring does when used on white foods (like bananas.) HC yellow 5 is the least toxic of all the HC patches, but it has been shown to cause occasional allergic reactions in individuals sensitive to other tartrazine dyes.

It is used in intermediate food colors for baking or icing icings, milkshakes, etc. It provides a pleasing alternative to artificial coloring and gives finer control over shade than many other sweeteners.

It is also used in lipsticks for smoothing out the surface. It can find it in various processed foods, candies, bakery products, and personal care items. Other countries have also approved its use for that purpose.

It is approved for application on table salt as a colorant for your chicken soup dumplings. It works as an excellent colorant for various foods, mayonnaise, butter or cream-based sauces similar to Béarnaise sauce.
