Ortho-substituted building block
The OH group and the ortho chlorine give two handles for etherification, condensation and further substitution.
2-Chlorophenol (ortho-chlorophenol, OCP) is a liquid intermediate for agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and dyes, and a feed for further chlorinated and substituted phenols. SUNCHEM supplies OCP to synthesis users with a batch COA on every shipment.
2-Chlorophenol combines a phenolic OH group with a chlorine atom in the ortho position. Chemists use it to build ethers, esters and further chlorinated or substituted phenols that end up in herbicides, fungicides, pharmaceutical intermediates and dyes.
Chlorinating phenol gives a mixture of isomers, so the levels of 4-chlorophenol and dichlorophenols are usually what separates one OCP grade from another.
The OH group and the ortho chlorine give two handles for etherification, condensation and further substitution.
OCP melts at about 9 °C, so it is pumped and metered as a liquid; drums may need gentle warming in cold weather.
We quote against your limits for assay, 4-chlorophenol and dichlorophenols, with a batch COA for every lot.
| Parameter | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Product name | 2-Chlorophenol (OCP) |
| Synonyms | o-Chlorophenol; ortho-chlorophenol |
| CAS No. | 95-57-8 |
| EC No. | 202-433-2 |
| Molecular formula | C₆H₅ClO |

Assay, 4-chlorophenol, dichlorophenol and water limits depend on the producer grade and are stated on the TDS and batch COA; the limits for your order are confirmed in the quotation and contract.
Where 2-chlorophenol is used, and what to confirm before you switch supply.
Used to build aryl ether and other structures in herbicide and fungicide synthesis, and as a feed for higher chlorinated phenols.
A substituted-phenol building block for API and intermediate synthesis.
An intermediate for dyes and other organic chemicals.
| Your requirement | What usually works |
|---|---|
| Herbicide or fungicide synthesis | Specify assay and limits for 4-chlorophenol and dichlorophenols |
| Pharmaceutical intermediate | Ask for the TDS and a recent COA before sampling |
| Winter delivery to cold regions | Plan for drum warming; OCP solidifies at about 9 °C |
| Replacing an existing supplier | Send your current TDS or COA; we quote against the parameters you approve |
Pack size and container type are confirmed with the quotation.
Store in closed containers in a cool, well-ventilated area away from oxidizers and bases. Strong odor; toxic by skin contact and ingestion — follow the SDS.
Regulated as toxic for transport (UN 2021, Class 6.1, PG III).
Tell us what you make from OCP; the isomer limits that matter depend on your next step.
Assay, 4-chlorophenol, 2,4- and 2,6-dichlorophenol, and water. Ask for them on the same COA template as your incoming inspection.
OCP is toxic dangerous goods (UN 2021) and freezes near 9 °C. Agree container type and port early.
Run a sample in your own process and keep the approved lot COA as the reference for contract limits.
Tell us what you make with 2-chlorophenol, the quantity and the destination port. Add your current specification and we will quote against it.

As an intermediate for pesticides, pharmaceuticals and dyes, and as a feed for further chlorinated and substituted phenols.
4-chlorophenol, 2,4- and 2,6-dichlorophenol and water, in addition to assay. The limits depend on your next synthesis step.
It is a liquid at room temperature and solidifies at about 9 °C, so drums may need warming in cold weather.
Yes. It ships as toxic dangerous goods under UN 2021, Class 6.1, PG III.
