DMAC dissolves polymers that few other solvents can — polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane-urea, polyimide precursors, PVDF and polysulfones — and it is stable to strong bases, which makes it a reaction solvent for pharmaceuticals such as antibiotics and for agrochemicals. Its main volume uses are fiber spinning, film casting, membrane making and wire enamels.
