2-Chlorophenol combines a phenolic OH group with a chlorine atom in the ortho position. Chemists use it to build ethers, esters and further chlorinated or substituted phenols that end up in herbicides, фунгициды, pharmaceutical intermediates and dyes.
Chlorinating phenol gives a mixture of isomers, so the levels of 4-chlorophenol and dichlorophenols are usually what separates one OCP grade from another.

OCP melts at about 9 °С, so it is pumped and metered as a liquid; drums may need gentle warming in cold weather.
