Introduction:

Trimethylene phosphate (TCP) is an organophosphorus compound. It is an oily liquid that is miscible with most organic solvents.

Also, it is colorless, odorless, and soluble in water.  And it is toxic and can cause symptoms in users including, but not limited to, dizziness, headaches, loss of balance, nausea, and vomiting. 

It is mainly used for anesthetic induction (inducer) because of its inhibitory effect on cholinesterase. So its most common use is for organophosphate pesticides. 

It is also used in cosmetics, inks, antifreeze and it is also used in chemical catalysts.

Applications:

Trimethyl phosphate (TCP) is used to manufacture organophosphorus insecticides, such as parathion and methyl parathion. It is an organophosphorus compound that inhibits cholinesterase and causes neurotoxicity in humans and animals.

It is used as a corrosion inhibitor in cooling tower water, a lubricating additive in some hydraulic oils, a thickener for dyes, a plasticizer for synthetic fibers, a wood preservative, a lubricant for engines, and a slip agent to improve the flow of molds.

It is also used in secondary oil recovery and has applications in the plastics, electronics, and pharmaceutical industries.
