Dihexadecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride is a lipid-soluble cationic surfactant. It can be used as a quaternary ammonium salt to make water-in-oil microemulsions for hair conditioning and skincare products.

It has powerful anti-microbial properties, with the ability to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses on contact. This makes it an ideal ingredient for anti-microbial formulas such as those designed to treat acne or other skin issues.

It is an ammonium salt of a monoester of 1,2-dihydroxyoctadecane that is produced by reacting with chloroacetic acid. It is also produced by the reaction between Dihydroxy Toluene and Maleic Anhydride.

The two main components of it are hexadecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride and DDMACA or 1-methoxypropan-2-yl acetate.


Dihexadecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride is a cationic surfactant and is used as a wetting and dispersing agent. It is used as a primary or secondary additive in many formulations.

It is suitable for use in many personal care products such as shampoos, body washes, hand washes, and shower gels. It is also used as a wetting and dispersing agent in deodorants, fragrances and fragranced products and as a gelling and thickening agent in hair care and skincare products.
