Product overview & key benefits

PVA is made by hydrolyzing polyvinyl acetate. It dissolves in water to form a stable colloid and forms strong, oil-resistant films, with properties between plastics and rubber. Besides fiber (vinylon), it is used in coatings and building adhesives, paper sizing and coating, textile warp sizing, as a protective colloid in emulsion polymerization (PVAc and VAE), and as a raw material for PVB and water-soluble film.

Grades are defined by degree of hydrolysis and viscosity (degree of polymerization). Tell us the grade you use now so we quote the equivalent.

Water-soluble film former

Dissolves in water and dries to strong, oil- and solvent-resistant films.

Binder and colloid

Binds pigments and fibers and stabilizes emulsions as a protective colloid.

Specified on your terms

We quote against your hydrolysis, viscosity and volatile limits and send the batch COA for each lot.

Selection & comparison

Choosing the right PVA grade

Your requirementWhat usually works
Building adhesives and puttyFully hydrolyzed grade; viscosity to suit the formulation
Emulsion polymerizationPartially hydrolyzed grade as protective colloid
Paper and textile sizingMatch the grade and viscosity you use now
Replacing an existing supplierSend your current TDS or COA; we quote against the parameters you approve

Packaging & storage

Packaging

Tell us the bag size and pallet requirements you need; we confirm the packaging with the quotation.

Storage

Keep bags closed in a dry store; PVA absorbs moisture.

From first email to approved supply

01

Name the end use

Adhesive, paper, textile, emulsion or fiber: hydrolysis and viscosity follow from it.

02

Compare the numbers that matter

Degree of hydrolysis, viscosity of a 4% solution, volatiles, ash and pH.

03

Test dissolution

Dissolve a sample in your own plant conditions; fully hydrolyzed grades need hot water.

04

Trial, then lock the spec

Run a sample in your own process and keep the approved lot COA as the reference for contract limits.

Tell us your requirement. We match the grade.

Tell us your application and the PVA grade you use now, the quantity and the destination port. Add your current specification and we will quote against it.

Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) FAQ

What is PVA used for?

For fibers and in large quantities in coatings, adhesives, paper processing, textile sizing, emulsion polymerization, PVB and water-soluble film.

How are PVA grades defined?

By degree of hydrolysis (partially or fully hydrolyzed) and viscosity, which reflects the degree of polymerization.

Which parameters should I compare between offers?

Degree of hydrolysis, viscosity, volatiles, ash and pH.

Is PVA dangerous goods?

No. It is not regulated as dangerous goods for transport; see the SDS for handling.
