Introduction:

The PBDPO (Pentabromodiphenyl oxide ) is a brominated derivative of the diphenyl ether compounds. It is soluble in oil but only slightly soluble in water. It has a molar mass of 603.87 g/mol.

It does not conduct electricity or heat very well, which is why it has found use in creating fire barriers, thermal insulation and even heat shielding. 

It is an organobromine compound and organic flame retardant, widely used in electronic devices such as computers and televisions. It can be used as a flame retardant in appliances, furniture, plastics, building insulation and even textiles. 

It presents no known health hazards on its own, and however, when it degrades, it can form highly toxic chemicals such as hydrogen bromide. It is also easily absorbed into the body through ingestion, inhalation and skin contact.

Applications:

PBDPO(Pentabromodiphenyl oxide ) is used as a fire retardant in textiles, plastics, rubber and wood. It is used as a flame retardant in many different materials such as textiles, plastics, rubber and wood.

It can be mixed in the polymer or in a coating to make them fire-resistant. It is released when the material burns, causing it to be flame retardant by neutralizing free radicals in the air.

It works by releasing halogens that act as hydrogen donors and terminate free radical chain reactions.

Without these chains, combustion cannot occur, and it can be used to reduce flammability, smoke and toxicity of the burning material.

It is also known for its usage in the production of high-density polyethylene or HDPE. It can be added to molten polyethylene to create a high-density plastic, which can be used for disposable bottles, toys and cooking utensils.
