SMCA carries the same reactive –CH₂Cl group as monochloroacetic acid, already neutralized as the sodium salt. Charging the salt avoids the heat and extra water of neutralizing MCA in the reactor, which is why it is the usual feed for cocamidopropyl betaine and other amphoteric surfactants, and an option for CMC and carboxymethyl starch.
Buyers usually check assay, 수분, sodium chloride and the pH of a solution: together they decide the salt load and the residual chloroacetate in the finished product.
