Antioxydant 1010 vs Antioxidant 168: How to Choose
Maison | Les sujets |
Quick Comparison
- Antioxydant 1010 — CAS 6683-19-8 | Primary antioxidant | Hindered phenol | Radical scavenger | MW 1178 g/mole
- Antioxydant 168 — CAS 31570-04-4 | Secondary antioxidant | Phosphite | Hydroperoxide decomposer | MW 647 g/mole
Why You Need Both
Using only a primary antioxidant leaves hydroperoxides to accumulate. Using only a phosphite secondary does not scavenge radicals during processing. La 1010 + 168 combination addresses both degradation pathways—which is why it has become the standard system for polyolefins globally.
Typical Usage Ratios
- Standard polyolefins: 1010 + 168 à 1:1 ou 1:2 ratio, 0.1–0.3% total
- Engineering plastics: 0.2–0.5% total
- Fiber and filament: 0.1–0.2% combined
When to Adjust the Ratio
- Color shift during processing is primary concern → increase 168 (secondary)
- Long-term service life aging is primary concern → increase 1010 (primary)
- Multi-pass or recycled material → higher total loading overall
FAQ
Can I substitute 1010 with Antioxidant 1076?
Antioxydant 1076 (CAS 2082-79-3) is a viable lower-cost alternative in less demanding applications, but provides lower antioxidant activity per unit weight. Confirm through processing and aging trials.
