1,3-Dioxolane is made from formaldehyde and ethylene glycol. It is a strong, water-miscible solvent that dissolves many resins and polymers, and it is used as a solvent and extractant for oils and fats and as a cleaning solvent. In lithium batteries it is a co-solvent in electrolytes, particularly for lithium-metal and lithium–sulfur cells. With 1,3,5-trioxane it is copolymerized to make POM copolymer.
For battery use, water and impurity limits are tighter than for solvent grades; tell us which you need.
