Introduction:

SUNLIGHT® 770 is also called bis(2,2',6,6'-tetramethylpiperidinyl) sebacate. It has the appearance of a white crystalline powder.

It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ethyl acetate and benzene, and insoluble in water. It has high volatility and poor migration and extraction resistance.

It can be made from acetone by passing ammonia gas to 2,2',4,4',6-pentamethyl-2,3,4,5 tetrahydropyrimidine, with ammonium chloride as catalyst, 2,2',4,4',6-pentamethyl-2,3,4,5 tetrahydropyrimidine in the presence of acetone In the presence of skeletal nickel and other catalysts, 2,2',6,6'-tetramethyl-4-oxopiperidine was reacted to form 2,2',6,6'-tetramethyl-4-oxopiperidine for liquid phase addition to produce 2,2 ',6,6'-tetramethyl-4-hydroxypiperidine.

Then dimethyl sebacate was produced by esterification of sebacic acid and methanol in the presence of sulfuric acid. Finally, 2,2',6,6'-tetramethyl-4-hydroxypiperidine was reacted with dimethyl sebacate to produce the finished product.

Applications:

SUNLIGHT® 770 is a light stabilizer used for cellulose ester plasticizers and epoxy-based resins. As a colorless liquid, it has good solubility in coatings and plastics.

It is very effective in preventing discoloration such as yellowing or fading of coatings and plastics. It is used in the manufacturing of photographic film. It is also blended with plastic to give it desired properties.

It has some color properties that make the product unique and valuable to the end-users. Applications of it are not limited to the photographic industry. It can be used in the preparation of PVC surface coatings.
