Ertapenem Sodium

Ertapenem Sodium is a semi-synthetic carbapenem antibiotic. It is similar to imipenem and meropenem and also has good activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Its components are ertapenem sodium, bromide, and water. Its production process involves chemical reactions. Ertapenem Sodium has white powder or crystalline powder properties that are slightly soluble in water and very slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol. It is derived from Carba-Amino acid.

It has broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is active against a large variety of bacteria, including anaerobes. It is not active against fungus and viruses.

The drug enters the bacterial cell and kills it from within by interfering with its protein synthesis. It also inhibits the enzyme enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (ENR) responsible for synthesizing fatty acids. The accumulation of fatty acids in the cell leads to cell death.

Ertapenem sodium is an antibacterial substance. It decreases the activity of certain bacteria and fights against them and therefore helps people who suffer from infections. It is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.

It is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. This medicine will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu).
