Introduction:

Oxadiazon belongs to the oxadiazine class of organic compounds and is used as an agricultural fungicide.

The solubility of it depends on the solvent’s polarity and pH value. An acidic medium dissolves well in water or ethanol but is poorly soluble in chloroform or ether. 

It can be used as a pesticide for plant protection, working as contact or residual fungicide, which kills fungi on contact by inhibiting electron transport in mitochondrial respiration or by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a constituent of fungal cell membranes.

It has no residual effect after drying out from sprayed surfaces because its fungicidal action lasts up to two weeks only under field conditions. It has no soil activity, which means that it does not grow weed or fungal diseases on treated soils. 

Applications:

Oxadiazon 95%TC is used in agriculture to control fungal diseases of plants. It can be used to prevent and control diseases caused by oomycetes, powdery mildew, white rusts, brown rusts, leaf spots and blights on field crops (cereals, pulses), and greenhouse crops (flowers, ornamentals) and fruit trees.

It is used in forestry to prevent or reduce damage inflicted by various fungal diseases. It is also used in the seed treatment industry to protect seed and seedlings, rootings and cuttings against fungal diseases during storage and sowing.

It can also be applied topically to the soil surface to reduce propagule pressure, especially oomycetes, and reduce the potential for disease development.

It can be used as a plant growth regulator in fruit trees to improve harvesting yield and quality by delaying ripening and prolonging the storage time of fruits.
