Introduction:

Faropenems is a β-lactam antibiotic with a broad spectrum of action. It is a carbapenem antibiotic combination product that contains boron. It is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.

It is a prodrug, activated by dehydrating to form the active metabolite. The drug is very soluble in water but not soluble in alcohol or organic solvents. It also shows to be stable at room temperature for about 30 minutes before it loses its potency.

It is bactericidal against the most common Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Faropenem is a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium.

It is a prescription antibiotic. It is also known as Cefepime Hydrochloride and Cefpimizole Hydrochloride. This medication comes in tablet form and may be taken with or without food.

Applications:

Faropenem works against a variety of bacterial infections. The drug is mostly used to treat mild to moderate skin and skin structures, such as skin infections caused by staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Streptococcus dysgalactiae.

It has been successfully used to treat pneumonia, bone and joint infections, and intra-abdominal infections caused by enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus Vulgaris, and Klebsiella pneumonia.

The drug is also used to treat pyelonephritis, biliary tract infections, and infections of the female genital tract caused by susceptible strains of E. coli, Enterococcus, Group B beta-hemolytic streptococci, and Bacteroides fragilis. These infections also include upper respiratory tract, sinus, skin, bone, and urinary tract infections.
