Capecitabine

Capecitabine is an anticancer drug with the following common nickname: Xeloda. It is a colorless or white solid. It is produced in chemical reactions that are catalyzed by enzymes called nucleotidyl transferases.

It is a prescription medication. The active ingredients in this drug are its salts. It can also be produced through chemical reactions involving acetic acid, chloroacetic acid, and semicarbazide hydrochloride.

For breast cancer treatment, capecitabine is used in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents such as docetaxel and trastuzumab.

It acts by blocking the production of nucleic acids in cells infected with viruses. It enables the immune system to destroy these viruses. It also prevents the further growth of cancer cells.

Capecitabine, a fluoropyrimidine derivative drug, is broadly used for treating solid malignancies and metastatic bone disease, and it is effective in the palliative treatment of heavily pretreated metastatic breast cancer.

Capecitabine is one of the widely used chemotherapy drugs in the treatment of several types of cancers. It is used to treat breast, colorectal, and non-small cell lung cancers.

Breast cancer cells are sensitive to the effects of this drug; however, normal cells are usually not affected by it. It is also used to treat advanced pancreatic cancer.
